How can we help you...

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a gold standard talking therapy used around the world.

We specialise in eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, ARFID, Binge Eating Disorder and Rumination Syndrome.

Low Mood and Depression

Whilst feeling low from time to time is a normal human emotion, sometimes feeling low becomes something more. If you are struggling with prolonged low mood or depression, there are treatments that can help. At Your CBT we will work with you to map out why your mood is causing you such distress. Once we have a shared understanding of what you are experiencing, we will teach you the skills to help you break free of your current difficulties. Using behavioural activation and cognitive restructuring techniques we will help you to change the way you interact with the world around you.

We all feel anxious from time to time. However, sometimes our anxiety becomes so intense that it causes deep distress and can stop us from leading the life we want to lead. The good news is that there are treatments that can help. There are many different types of anxiety disorder including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Health Anxiety, Social Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder (panic attacks). At Your CBT the first step will be to carry out a thorough assessment of your anxiety so that we have a shared understanding of your current difficulties. Eating Disorders are probably one of the most misunderstood illnesses despite affecting millions of people around the world. They can take many different forms depending on the symptoms; Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID, Atypical Anorexia, Rumination Disorder and many more. Many people will experience more than one type of eating disorder in their lifetime. The situation is made more difficult by the amount of unhelpful information we see in the media: everything from unrealistic body images to unsustainable diets. It can feel like we have forgotten what normal eating is.

At Your CBT we specialise in the treatment of eating disorders and offer a number of cognitive behavioural therapies to help. Our approach is one of firm empathy; whilst we understand your distress and will always listen to you without judgement, we expect you to make guided changes to your eating pattern from the early days of treatment.

There are physical health risks associated with eating disorders, so it is vital that your GP is aware. This is because we do not offer medical monitoring at Your CBT. However, we can write to your GP to provide them and you with the recommended routine tests that should be carried out for anyone with any type of eating disorder, including pulse, blood pressure and blood tests.

Emetophobia is characterised by an intense fear of vomiting or seeing other people vomit. Whilst no one enjoys being sick or seeing others being sick, people with emetophobia will take significant steps to avoid this, to the extent that it interferes in their daily life.

The good news is that there are treatments that can help. As with many phobias, treatment involves a certain amount of exposure, in order to reduce sensitivity to the phobic trigger. At Your CBT we will work with you to develop a step by step plan. For example, we might begin by looking at associated words, progressing to exposure to certain sounds and then certain images associated with vomiting.

In order to understand OCD let’s break the name down into two parts. The Obsessive part relates to OCD causing persistent and unwanted thoughts, images and urges. The Compulsive part relates to OCD causing persistent behaviours (mental or physical) which can be a way to manage or ‘neutralise’ the obsessive thought, image or urge. People with OCD will experience either or both of these, to the extent that it is causing significant distress and having a serious effect on their daily life.

Research studies have shown that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective treatments for OCD. Find out more by booking your free 15 minute discovery call.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a gold standard talking therapy used around the world. In 2021 almost 2 million CBT appointments were made in England alone.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends CBT as the first choice of treatment for many mental health difficulties. It has a clear evidence base, with therapeutic approaches that are designed and tested to ensure they are as effective as possible.

CBT can help you to notice thoughts, feelings, behaviours and bodily sensations and to understand the links between them. It can give you the tools to adopt more helpful ways of thinking and behaving, in order to improve your state of mind.

Unlike some other talking therapies, CBT looks at what is happening in the here and now. The focus is on helping you to feel better as quickly as possible. CBT targets patterns of thoughts and behaviours that are maintaining your difficulties and keeping you stuck.

It is sometimes helpful to explore the origins of current difficulties (and CBT techniques can be used to do this). However, many people are unsure, or cannot accurately remember, how their difficulties began. Therefore discussion of past experiences is not always helpful and some people actually find it unhelpful.

Together we can...

Together we can identify the patterns of thinking and behaviour that are keeping you stuck in your current difficulties.

We want to help you to understand and overcome the challenges you are facing.

“…I will teach you what I have learned about mental health and the skills you need to look after yours…”
